Kick is one of the fastest-rising live streaming platforms. They’re built around real-time, creator-led entertainment — from gaming and IRL streams to music, chat, and everything in between. Their branded experiental event DreamHack was coming to Atlanta and they needed a graphics package built out for the show. It’s a brand that feels fast, loud, and very online, so the creative challenge was capturing that same live, high-energy internet culture in a way that felt worth showing off on a big stage.

I visual chaos

The KICK brand gave us license to go nuts. Their unique flavor of chaos had it’s own constraints in color and specific patterns of noise. But in concert with 3D artist Peter Donda we developed a modular “Chaos Engine” that allowed us to bring their designs to life with (ironically) complete control. His unique methodology, allowed us to apply this to live footage for some truly unique looks.

II clip libraries

When designing for events, you’re basically stockpiling ammo for the VJ on game day so he has everything he needs to perform. We had to design each element for playback on 4 different screens which required constant contact with the team on the ground executing the event. The roster was evolving up to the day of the show- requiring us to be on call if & when changes came down the pipe. To this effect, we build out a full library of patterns, transitions, elements and bespoke packages for each artist and event.

III logistical improvisation

This project required hitting a moving target. We advised the client while they diagnosed which categories of visuals they needed and what elements would improve the piece. We brainstormed an identity system for each type of content featuring a shared intro title card and custom elements for each performer- creating a modular system that narrowed down the scope of the work.

KICK’s brand style had no ceiling for creativity. They’re an outlier in my world - a tech company that leans towards chaos over precision. This allowed us to go all out throwing tons of ideas against the wall to cover the 3 day event with motion design that directed traffic to the most exciting events each day.
